Why People Struggle to Start
One of the biggest reasons people struggle with fitness isn’t lack of motivation—it’s decision paralysis. With so many options—Pilates, pickleball, running, weightlifting, group classes—it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. They get stuck searching for the perfect plan instead of choosing something sustainable.
At Nika Athletics, we’ve seen this firsthand. Many new members come in thinking they need to completely overhaul their fitness (and nutrition!) overnight. Instead, we guide them toward a better approach: choosing the option they’ll actually stick with long-term.
Why Perfection Doesn’t Work
The best program, diet, or routine is useless if you won’t follow through with it. Instead of chasing perfection, focus on what you can realistically commit to.
I know this struggle personally. I love learning about exercise and would constantly try to absorb as much information as possible. I’d find the best movement to target a certain muscle and do that for a couple of weeks—until I learned about the next best movement and switched. Or I’d change how many sets and reps I did based on what the latest expert recommended. I was constantly chasing the perfect workout, but in reality, I was just spinning my wheels. Progress only came when I committed to a plan and stuck with it long enough to see results.
Making Fitness Decisions Simpler
If you’re struggling with decision paralysis, here’s a simple framework to make fitness choices easier:
Takeaway
When making a fitness or health decision, don’t ask, “What’s the perfect choice?” Ask, “What’s the choice I’ll actually follow through with?” That’s the one that leads to results.
