Over the last few weeks, we’ve talked about what’s really going on for women 40+:
Now it’s time to put it all together and take action.
Because the truth is, you don’t need another article to think about. You need a plan you can actually do. And if you want support applying it, that’s what we do every day at Nika.
If you’re 40+ and only doing cardio, your body is missing the signal it needs most: strength training.
Two to three times a week is enough to make a huge difference.
Focus on compound movements like squats, deadlifts (hinging), presses, and rows.
It doesn’t need to be fancy. It just needs to be consistent.
Strength training is the foundation that keeps your metabolism strong, protects your bones, and gives you the confidence to move through life without feeling fragile.
This is exactly what we coach our members on – making strength approachable, doable, and effective.
At 40+, you can’t get away with under-eating protein the way you might have in your 20s or 30s.
Your body simply needs more to maintain muscle, manage hunger, and recover well.
Aim for about 0.7–1.0 grams of protein per pound of body weight each day (translation of Dr. Mary Claire Haver’s recommendation of 1.6–2.2g/kg).
That means protein at breakfast, lunch, and dinner – not just at night.
Build your meals around protein, then add fiber and healthy fats.
Food isn’t punishment. It’s fuel. And when you’ve got accountability and ideas for how to hit those numbers, it’s much easier to stay consistent.
At 40+, you can’t just white-knuckle through fatigue and expect progress. Awareness matters.
Tracking, even for a short time, helps you see where the gaps really are.
A coach can help spot the blind spots here and give you tools to fix them before they become roadblocks.
Most people in this stage of life get stuck because they overthink.
They wait for the perfect plan, the perfect time, the perfect start.
But what actually works? Starting!
One strength workout. One protein-focused meal. One night of better sleep.
Then you do it again. And again. …and again…
The path forward at 40+ isn’t complicated. It’s not about working harder or dieting stricter.
It’s about working smarter with the tools your body actually needs right now.
So here’s your challenge:
Pick one of the three steps above – strength, food, or awareness – and start today.
And if you want someone in your corner to make it simpler, faster, and more sustainable, that’s why we’re here.
